KWA infrastructure works in Thiruvananthapuram cause water supply disruptions, expected to be restored by Friday 8 a.m.
The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) kicked off three major infrastructure works in the capital city on Wednesday which has necessitated a shutdown of the 74 mld water treatment plant (WTP) at Aruvikkara.
While the arrangements have affected piped supply to several city wards and a few places in two panchayats, KWA officials said they expected the works to be completed on time so that the supply can be restored by 8 a.m. on Friday (April 4) as planned.
All three works are progressing smoothly, a KWA spokesperson said.
Near the PTP Nagar vending point, KWA workers are replacing a damaged butterfly valve on the transmission main carrying water from Aruvikkara to Iranimuttom with a sluice valve.
The second work involves the installation of a flow meter and valve on the supply pipeline for improving the supply from PTP Nagar to the Nemom-Vattiyurkavu region. Alongside these works, the alignment of the transmission main is being changed near the Sastri Nagar underpass at Karamana. The doubling of the Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil railway line has necessitated this work.
