Govt. sets an ambitious housing target for 2025-26 in Andhra Pradesh. It is aiming at constructing 10 lakh houses under PMAY 1.0 and PMAY 2.0 schemes between April 2025 and March 2026 in both the rural and urban areas, and has allocated ₹6,317 crore for the purpose in the Budget, says Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh is aiming at constructing 10 lakh houses under the PMAY 1.0 and PMAY 2.0 schemes between April 2025 and March 2026 in both the rural and urban areas. In the Budget for 2025-26, the government has allocated ₹6,317 crore for the purpose.
“The government is committed to completing these houses by mobilising additional funds, if required, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has promised to allocate additional budgetary support,” Kolusu Parthasarathy, Minister for Housing and I&PR, told The Hindu on Wednesday.
“The government is planning to lay internal and connecting roads in all the housing colonies under the MGNREGS at an estimated cost of ₹3,000 crore. Of this, the material component, which will be approximately ₹1,800 crore, can be mobilised from the Central government, while the remaining amount needs to be contributed by the State government,” Mr. Parthasarathy said.
As the Union government extended the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) on the request of the State government, the department concerned was working to provide drinking water tap connections in all the houses being constructed, he said.
The Minister said the JJM funds would be in addition to the budgetary allocations made for housing. “Already, some colonies have water pipelines and the remaining will have them soon. Work on providing electricity connections for these colonies is under progress,” he added.
Mr. Parthasarathy further said that the Chief Minister had approved the proposal to extend an additional financial assistance of ₹50,000 per house in the case of SCs and BCs, ₹75,000 for each ST beneficiary, and ₹1 lakh for the Primitive Tribal Group (PTG) beneficiaries. “Further, the government is extending a loan of ₹1 lakh per house for beneficiaries other than SCs, STs and BCs,” he said.
Referring to the YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s insistence that he be accorded the Leader of Opposition (LoP) status, Mr. Parthasarathy said it was not possible to grant him the status as the YSRCP needed at least 18 MLAs as per norms. “The opposition party has only 11 members now,” he said.
