
T.N. govt. lists out measures undertaken for welfare of women

Tamil Nadu government implements various measures to empower women, including increased reservation, financial assistance, and support for entrepreneurs.
Ahead of the International Women’s Day on March 8, the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday listed out the measures being undertaken for the welfare of women. The increase in reservation for women in government services from 30% to 40% has led to more women benefiting from the policy, it said.
The State government had extended marriage assistance to the tune of ₹1,047 crore for about 1.26 lakh women, an official release said. It waived off loans obtained by 15.88 lakh women attached to 1.17 lakh self-help groups to the tune of ₹2,755 crore.
The maternity leave for women employees were increased from nine to 12 months since 2021, it said. Following the directions of the Chief Minister, the government disbursed loans to the tune of ₹6,265 crore to 1.25 lakh self-help groups.
Women entrepreneurs benefited through support from the Tamil Nadu Startup Seed Grant Fund, it said. Loans of about ₹331 crore was extended to over 11,900 working women and loans of about ₹191 crore was extended to 32,300 women entrepreneurs.
In an attempt to curb offences being reported against women, 39 new all women police stations had been established. The government rolled out AVAL - Avoid Violence Through Awareness and Learning initiative for their safety, it said.
A total of 11 women odhuvars had been appointed in temples. Children of about 3.23 lakh women workers were benefiting from creches that had been established in 17 SIPCOT campuses.
