Chartered accountant Abhishek Gupta faces death threats after exposing Torres investment scam, seeks police protection through court petition.
In the Torres investment scam, the 31-year-old chartered accountant Abhishek Mahendra Gupta, who claims to be the whistle-blower in the case, has filed a complaint at the judicial magistrate court, Mazgaon, Mumbai, on Thursday (March 6, 2025), stating that he has been receiving death threats.
Advocates Vivek Tiwari and Trupen Rathod for Mr. Gupta said that on January 5 and 6, their client received death threats on his mobile phone and for that he registered a non-cognizable report with Pydhonie Police Station, Mumbai, for the offence under section 351 (4), 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act against the unknown persons.
“Unknown persons had pasted Mr. Gupta’s photograph on walls across Masjid Bunder station and nearby his office premises on January 5 and 6. They had pasted wanted posters of him and entered his office the premises. Following these incidents, our client had approached the police station, but the police did not act on his complaint, and this is the reason he moved the court,” advocate Tiwari explained.
In the petition to the court, Mr. Gupta stated that he wrote a letter on February 12, to the police station requesting to investigate and retrieve CCTV footage of the incident. On February 15, 2025, the police station had called him to record his statement. But since then, the police have not acted upon it.
The petition said that Mr. Gupta is still in fear of his life and is unable to perform his daily office and personal activities as the accused in the Torres scam case are not identified yet and are roaming freely.
“Since our client has exposed a huge scam and saved many investors money by whistleblowing, it is because of that the international mafias are after him, want to harm and kill him. He has urged the court to intervene the matter and order the police to investigate and act upon his complaint,” advocate Tiwari said.
In January this year, the Bombay High Court came heavily on the Mumbai Police over the slow-paced investigation in the Torres investment scam and ordered an immediate interim police protection for the petitioner, Mr. Gupta.
