Educationist, former MLC M.R. Doreswamy passes away

Educationist Prof. M.R. Doreswamy, founding president of PES University, passes away at 88 in Bengaluru, leaving behind a legacy.
Educationist, former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), and founding president of PES University, Prof. M.R. Doreswamy, 88, passed away on Thursday evening at his residence in Banashankari II Stage, Bengaluru.
He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and grandchildren. The mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at his residence until Friday afternoon. Later, the last rites will be performed at the Banashankari crematorium with police honours, family sources said.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, among others, paid their last respects at his residence.
Born in Narravuru village of Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, on November 7, 1937, in an agricultural family, he went on to occupy the position of Chancellor of PES University. He served for a term as Advisor, Education Reforms, for the Government of Karnataka.
Considering his contribution to the field of education, the State government honoured him with the Kannada Rajyotsava award and the Kempegowda Award. He was also honoured with an honorary doctorate by the University of Mysore.
PES Group of Institutions started by him is spread over the states of Karnataka and Andhra, offering school education all the way to professional courses in engineering and medicine.
