Delhi Health Minister promises healthcare reforms, Ayushman Bharat scheme implementation, and improved hospital facilities in 100 days.
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Thursday said fundamental changes in the city’s healthcare system will be visible in 100 days.
The Minister added that registration for the Central government’s health insurance scheme, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), will begin after March 8.
“The previous [AAP] government did not implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi. Now, we will ensure its implementation,” Mr. Singh told mediapersons. He added, “The Comptroller and Auditor General report [on healthcare services] has revealed that the previous government awarded medicine tenders to blacklisted companies. We will ensure that Delhi residents get quality medicines.”
AAP did not issue a response to the allegations.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme provides an annual health cover of ₹5 lakh per family for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation.
One of the BJP’s key promises in the run-up to the Assembly election was implementing the Centre’s flagship insurance programme in Delhi. The ruling party cleared the implementation of the scheme in the first Cabinet meeting on February 20.
The Minister said the Delhi government would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for PM-JAY’s execution.
