Forest Department in Ambur town organises cycle rally to promote green transport and raise awareness on pollution effects.
The Forest Department organised a cycle rally in Ambur town in Tirupattur on Thursday to create awareness on green transport like using e-vehicles and what pollution can do to people and the land. Forest officials said that more than 75 participants, mostly students, pedalled around three kms in Ambur town, carrying placards as part of the rally, which was organised by District Climate Change Mission. They also stopped now and then to distribute pamphlets to the people. “Temperature has been on the rise over the years. More saplings should be planted to increase green cover. Additionally, switching off engines of vehicles at traffic signals, cycling for a short distance and carpooling could reduce pollution to a great extent.” said M. Babu, forest range officer, Ambur. Most of the participants completed the rally in a few hours. At the starting point, the participants were given T-shirts with slogans saying that they make the earth more environmentally friendly. At the end points, food was also served to the participants. All participants were given a certificate at the end of the rally by the organisers.
