Warangal brass artisans shine at Rashtrapati Bhavan
Warangal
In a proud moment for Telangana, brass artisans from the Rangashaipet Brass Cluster in Warangal district showcased their intricate handicrafts at the second edition of Vividhtaka Amrit Mahotsav. Inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 5, the event will remain open for visitors till March 9.
The event celebrates India’s diverse cultural heritage, highlighting the rich traditions of southern states and union territories, with the participation of about 500 artisans and weavers.
Led by master craftsmen Mattewada Pranay Kumar and M. Santosh Kumar, a team of 25 artisans presented their exquisite craftsmanship, which not only preserves a traditional art form but also enhances their market reach and recognition. The artisans have undergone intensive training in brass embossing techniques for over a year, supported by NABARD and MARI, an NGO.
According to Ravi, DDM, NABARD, the artisans’ commitment to learning new brass embossing techniques has begun yielding tangible benefits, significantly improving their business prospects. However, he emphasised the need for a dedicated product catalogue and enhanced marketing strategies to realise the cluster’s potential fully.
He also highlighted the district’s rich heritage in handlooms and handicrafts and expressed optimism that this initiative would pave the way for the revival and growth of other traditional art forms in Warangal.
Lauding the inclusion of Rangashaipet brass handicrafts at Rashtrapati Bhavan as a milestone achievement for the district’s artisans, Satya Sharada Devi, Warangal District Collector, reaffirmed the Telangana government’s commitment to supporting traditional crafts, mentioning ongoing efforts to allocate land at Kakatiya Mega Textile Park to provide artisans with a dedicated workspace.
