Free NEET coaching classes for Class XII students in Coimbatore district, covering 155 schools, with daily tests and support.
With the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) around the corner, the School Education Department’s free coaching classes for Class XII students of government and aided schools are under way in Coimbatore district.
The coaching is being conducted at five centres across the district’s 15 blocks, covering 155 schools. A total of 386 students have enrolled in the programme.
“Though I am particular about writing NEET, I wasn’t sure I would be able to self-study as I was not familiar with these kinds of concepts. I tried learning on my own and wrote the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), but I’m not sure of the result. This course has so far given me a better avenue to learn,” said Nimrod Jubal S., a student of Government Higher Secondary School, Madukkarai.
The classes are held from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and are conducted by teachers from government and aided schools. The four subjects — Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology — are each taught for one-and-a-half hours. Students also take a weekly mock test to familiarise themselves with the NEET exam pattern.
“The coaching began a week ago and is being conducted six days a week, until April 30. We also admit students who have not registered earlier and have provided them with NCERT books and other materials. We are planning to include Class XI students as well — 30 interested students from each block will be inducted so that they become familiar with the syllabus and pattern, which will help them when they attend the coaching next year,” said an official from the School Education Department.
“Daily tests are also being conducted, and the results are used to identify both high-performing and underperforming students, with separate support provided to each group,” said K. Sundarajan, centre-in-charge at the St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School.
