Minister inspects knowledge centre and Adi Dravidar welfare hostel in Salem

Tourism Minister inspects knowledge centre in Salem, announces new facilities for students and welfare hostels in progress.
Tourism Minister R. Rajendran inspected the knowledge centre at Ayyanthirumaligai in Salem Corporation limits on Sunday and said 3,500 students visited the centre in March.
The Minister also instructed the Corporation officials to provide a dining room at the centre for the students.
Later, he inspected the Adi Dravidar welfare hostel being constructed at Maravaneri.
He told reporters that the knowledge centre has facilities like smart classrooms, a computer centre with internet facilities, a reading room, an LCD television, and a projector.
Over 40,000 books are available. In March, 3,500 students and candidates preparing for competitive exams visited it. Over 30 candidates cleared the competitive exams and are now in government jobs.
Likewise, knowledge centres were constructed at Attur at ₹1.96 crore, and at Tharamangalam and Mettur at ₹1.14 crore and ₹1.95 crore, respectively. The Chief Minister had announced that knowledge centres will be constructed in Karuppur, Jalakandapuram, and Vazhapadi town panchayats.
Further, in the last four years, 90,390 beneficiaries received welfare assistance worth ₹13.91 crore in Salem district provided through the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department. The Chief Minister has allocated additional funds for the renovation of Adi Dravidar welfare hostels.

Referring to the blasting being done at the stone quarries, the Upa Lokayukta sought to know whether information had been gathered regarding any damage to houses in the village. He sought to know who would be responsible for any damage caused due to quarrying being done completely through blasting, and directed the officials to do a thorough check.
