Vice-Chancellors of T.N. State universities skip Governor’s meeting in Udhagamandalam
Vice-Chancellors from all Tamil Nadu State universities skipped the Vice-Chancellors’ meeting being chaired by Governor R.N. Ravi at Udhagamandalam on Friday (April 25, 2025).
The inauguration event at Raj Bhavan in Udhagamandalam in the Nilgiris was attended by Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar. Speaking at the conference, Governor Ravi said the Vice-Chancellors from State universities were warned by the State government not to attend the conference.
He alleged that while one Vice-Chancellor was currently detained at a police station, another received “a knock at his door late at night” from the Tamil Nadu police, warning him of dire consequences if he attended the conference. “I have spoken to them [both officials] and advised them to take care of their families,” said Mr. Ravi.
Some of the State universities have sent representatives to attend the event in place of the Vice-Chancellors.

Bangladesh is witnessing renewed political tension after the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, a young leader who emerged during the July–August 2024 uprising that led to the removal of Sheikh Hasina. Hadi later headed the radical group Inquilab Mancha and was campaigning ahead of the 2026 parliamentary election when he was shot in Dhaka. His death has triggered protests, diplomatic friction with India, and concerns over rising political violence as Bangladesh heads towards elections under an interim government.
