CPI(M) members protest price hikes by Central and State governments, calling for rollback and fair tax distribution.
Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a demonstration in the city on Sunday and said that both the Central and the State governments were competing to increase prices of essential commodities.
The CPI(M) state executive committee member Mujib said that the price hike has caused immense hardship to the commoners and pointed out the hike in prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas, toll charges, and electricity, which were effected recently.
Addressing the public in the city, Mr. Mujib called for a rollback of the hike and said that both the BJP and Congress should demonstrate that they care for the commoners by rescinding the hike. He also flayed the Union government for not providing what he described as the rightful share of taxes to the States. The BJP was withholding the tax share due to the States for political reasons, he added.
CPI(M) Mysuru district secretary Jagadeesh Surya accused the government of not passing on the benefits of the fall in the international crude oil price. Instead, the consumers were being burdened, he added.
Taking exception to the protests launched by the Congress, BJP, and JD(S), Mr. Surya said they were not genuine in their concern and were doing it for political mileage.
CPI (M) State committee member H.S. Sunanda and others were present.
