Two tourists from West Bengal killed in Jammu and Kashmir terrorist attack, Chief Minister offers condolences and assistance.
Two tourists from West Bengal have been killed in the terrorist attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday (April 22, 2025). The deceased have been identified as Bitan Adhikari, who is a resident of Baishnabghata in Kolkata and Sameer Guha, a resident of Behala in the city.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke to the wife of Bitan Adhikari and assured help from the West Bengal government. “One of the victims, Sri Bitan Adhikari, is from West Bengal. I have talked with his wife over the phone. Though no words are enough to console her in this hour of grief, I have assured her that my Government is taking all steps to bring back his mortal remains to his house at Kolkata,” Ms. Banerjee posted on social media.
The Chief Minister said that her heart goes out to the families of the deceased and offered her “deepest condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones in this inhuman act of terror”.
State’s Minister Aroop Biswas also visited the residence of Bitan Adhikari and said that he used to stay in the United States of America and had come to India on a vacation. The Minister who spoke to the family members including the brother of the deceased tourist said that the body will be brought to the State on Thursday (April 24, 2025). Bitan Adhikari was accompanied by his wife and a son and they were taken to Srinagar.
Sameer Guha, a central government employee was also visiting Pahalgam with his wife and daughter. The relatives who have assembled outside the family’s residence in Behala said that the wife of the deceased said that the assailants first asked for the identity and then shot him. Officials of the West Bengal government also reached out the relatives of Sameer Guha.
