Inauguration of Karnataka State Aided PU Colleges Employees’ Association in Mysuru to fight for employee rights and welfare.
The Mysuru district unit of the Karnataka State Aided PU Colleges Employees’ Association was inaugurated in the city on Sunday to secure their collective welfare and fight for their rights.
The office bearers of the association said issues plaguing the employees have increased consequent to the Karnataka Department of School Education (Pre-University) (Academic, Registration, Administration, and Grant-in-aid, etc.,) Rules, 2024. This, they said, provides for the retrenchment of employees in case of a decline in student admission or transfer.
The association state president N. Harish, said there are many cases of delay in the release of salaries, random transfer, or retrenchment. The need of the hour was a show of strength in the absence of which the government would not listen to their grievances, he added.
MLC K. Vivekananda, who inaugurated the association and the divisional conference, said the government-aided college employees are continuously at the receiving end and though they have submitted 40 demands, none of it has been fulfilled.
The MLC said he would strive to get the demands fulfilled and apprise the government of the imperatives of approving them in the interest of the smooth functioning of the institutions. Mr. Vivekananda said brilliant students keen to take up teaching and complete their doctorate but face difficulties in securing appointments in institutions. While there are over 65,000 vacancies in the State, many receive a pittance of ₹10,000 per month as salaries, he added.
Former MLC K.T. Srikantegowda, district unit president of the newly floated association Mahadev, and others, were present.
