KWIN City, the much-awaited educational and industrial hub between Dabaspet and Doddaballapur, is set to host world-class universities. The Karnataka government is making significant strides in this direction, with over 30 prestigious universities showing interest in setting up campuses in the city.
During the meeting at the Global Investors’ Meet on Thursday, M.C. Sudhakar, Minister for Higher Education, shared that discussions have already been initiated with 20 top universities globally. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Sudhakar with Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil also in attendance.
Dr. Sudhakar, while addressing the gathering, emphasised the importance of a holistic education system that aligns with both industry needs and global trends. “The curriculum needs to evolve to suit industry requirements. As part of this initiative, we will be forming a joint committee of education experts and industry leaders to guide the way forward,” he stated.
The State government has signed agreements with nine leading universities, including St. John’s University and Liverpool University. Additionally, well-known institutions like the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani and the World Horticultural Centre are also exploring opportunities in KWIN City.
Mr. Patil mentioned that Karnataka has been actively engaging with universities worldwide, conducting roadshows in countries such as Japan, South Korea, the U.S., and Europe. These efforts have resulted in an enthusiastic response from international institutions. The recently updated UGC guidelines allow the world’s top 500 universities to open campuses in India, providing a significant opportunity for KWIN City to become an educational hub with global reach, he said.
KWIN City is being designed as a melting pot for research, education, and industrial growth. It will feature state-of-the-art research and development (R&D) centers, incubation hubs, and facilities for deep-tech startups. This infrastructure will not only attract global corporations but will also serve as a launchpad for innovation-driven growth. As Dr. Sudhakar put it, “We aim to reshape education to meet the demands of today’s fast-paced world while providing our students with unparalleled research experiences and career opportunities.”
Sharanprakash Patil, Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, spoke about the State’s commitment to enhancing skill development programmes across various sectors, including artificial intelligence, eco-friendly energy, data science, cybersecurity, automation, nursing, and pharmaceutical training. He highlighted that Karnataka already has 70 medical colleges and is focusing on bridging the gap between industry and academia to improve employment outcomes. “We are collaborating with industry leaders like Wipro, Infosys, and Bosch to ensure our students are prepared for global challenges,” he said.
