Former Delhi Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of harbouring an “anti-Dalit and anti-Sikh attitude”.
The first session of the newly constituted Delhi Assembly commenced on Monday (February 24, 2025). Addressing the House, the AAP MLA alleged that the the current office holders had removed the photos of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from every office.
“The Anti-Dalit mentality of the Bharatiya Janata Party is well known. Today, a proof of its anti-Dalit mentality has been presented. Arvind Kejriwal had put up photos of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh in every office of the Delhi government,” said the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.
“Since, BJP has come to power, BJP has removed both these photos from the Chief Minister’s office. This shows that the BJP is an anti-Dalit, anti-Sikh party,” she added.
Opposing the behaviour of Leader of Opposition Atishi, Vijender Gupta, who has been elected as the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, stated that the Opposition will get all the opportunity to speak.
“If the Opposition doesn’t behave appropriately, I will be forced to give you a first warning and if you are not seated, we will not take it lightly. I am requesting you not ruin the peace of the first Assembly session on the very first day,” said Mr. Gupta.
Earlier on Monday, the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly also expressed dissatisfaction with the Delhi Chief Minister over the unfulfilled promise related to the Mahila Samman Yojana.
