Encroachments in the Indira Park came to fore at the Prajavani programme conducted by the Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency on Monday, when a group of morning walkers approached it with complaints.
The 76-acre Indira Park contains some extent of land donated by Pingali Venkata Rama Reddy, the last Deputy Prime Minister of the Hyderabad State, and social worker. In part of the land, government has constructed public utilities such as an electricity sub-station, a garbage dump yard, and other structures, while the rest is being encroached upon by local traders, the complaint said.
Meanwhile, several complaints were also received about encroachment of layout open spaces by the office bearers of the colony welfare associations.
Residents from the Green Hills Housing Colony in Bahadurpally area of Dundigal municipality represented about conversion of spaces allocated for schools, community hall and parks into saleable plots.
Another complaint was about encroachment of a graveyard and buffer zone of a drain by a builder in Ahmedguda village of Keesara mandal in Medchal-Malkajgiri district within the Dammaiguda municipal limits. One more was about erasure of Chettukunta lake in Anthaipally village of Shamirpet mandal in the same district.
A total 46 complaints were received in the Prajavani programme, a statement informed.
Meanwhile, HYDRAA has urged the complainants to cite any pending civil court cases when they approach with grievances. Action will be taken against the complainants if the case details are kept deliberately hidden. HYDRAA will not intervene in the disputes between individuals. Hence, only grievances pertaining to encroachment of government lands and open spaces will be entertained, the statement said.
