Congress President Kharge criticizes Modi government for violating Constitution, curbing basic rights, and disrespecting leaders like Nehru and Ambedkar.
Accusing the Narendra Modi-led Union Government of trampling the values enshrined in the Constitution, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday (January 26, 2025) said the basic rights of the people, especially the freedom to women, has been curtailed.
“It is important to adhere to the Constitution and protect it. It is time to fight for the protection of the Constitution and unity. However, the current Central government has trampled upon all the values of the Constitution. The basic rights of people, especially the freedom of women, has been curtailed,” Mr. Kharge said during the 76th Republic Day celebrations, organised here at Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office.
Unfortunately, Mr. Kharge said, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been insulting leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru and B.R. Ambedkar, who contributed to the Constitution, and the Constitution itself. “He is disrespecting those who wrote the Constitution,” he said recalling Mr. Shah’s statement on Ambedkar in Parliament.
“On Monday, a rally at the birthplace of Ambedkar is being held that will bring together lakhs of people. It to raise voice against those who are working against and troubling the country.”
The Congress President said that though Mr. Modi harps on about making India the third largest economy in the world, it is still in the fifth place while the UPA government had strived hard to bring it to fourth position.
“The Centre is looking down up the citizens of the country, but is providing facilities to the rich and influential. Mr. Modi is not doing what Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi have done. We have to fight that.”
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar were present.
