Rail passengers in Salem demand relocation of Tasmac outlet near Salem Town Railway Station due to traffic congestion.
Rail passengers in Salem have demanded shifting of a Tasmac outlet functioning in front of the Salem Town Railway Station, as it created traffic snarls in the locality.
The Mulluvadi Gate-Anandha Bridge Road that connects the Old Bus Stand, First and Second Agraharam, and Sugavaneswarar Temple turns busy when passenger trains arrive and depart at the Salem railway station, which is located on the stretch. Students from government arts college use this railway station to board the passenger train to Virudhachalam. A Tasmac outlet is located opposite the entrance of the railway station.
State president of BJP’s Environment Protection Cell, R.P. Gopinath said that people who bought liquor at the outlet consumed it on the station premises. People come in large numbers to the outlet during evening and park their vehicles near or on the station premises, affecting vehicle movement. The police were unable to regulate the movement of customers to the outlet. The party has submitted a petition in this regard.
The Tasmac officials said they will look into the demand.
