Three killed in road accident in Kalaburagi district

Fatal road accident on Solapur-Kalaburagi highway kills two pilgrims and a scooterist, drivers flee the scene.
Two pilgrims in a van and a scooterist were killed on the spot in a road accident between the van and a lorry near Gobbur (B) on Solapur-Kalaburagi National Highway 151 in Afzalpur taluk of Kalaburagi district on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as 29-year-old Anoop Madhav, a resident of Station Bazaar in Kalaburagi, 54-year-old Vinita Kashyap from Mysuru and 33-year-old scooterist Basavaraj, a native of Gobbur (B) village.
The pilgrims travelling in the van died on the spot. The other van passengers suffered minor injuries.
The two deceased along with the other passengers in the van were returning from Deval Ganagapur village to Kalaburagi after visiting the famous Dattatreya temple on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred when the van in a bid to overtake a vehicle, lost control and collided with the sugarcane-laden lorry.
During the collision, a scooter got stuck between the two vehicles. The third deceased Basavaraj was riding the scooter that got crushed between the two vehicles. He too breathed his last on the spot. Meanwhile, the drivers of the two vehicles fled the spot.
