Odisha Governor designate Kambhampati Haribabu has credited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for the success of the Kargil war, construction of the golden quadrilateral, starting of the Antyodaya scheme and creation of a separate Ministry for Tribal Affairs at the Centre.
Mr. Haribabu was speaking as the chief guest at an ‘elite meet’, organised to mark the birth centenary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, at Rockdale Hotel here on Wednesday.
The former Prime Minister was also instrumental in the peaceful bifurcation of three States (Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh), without giving any scope for violence. He had also played a key role in the Delhi metro project and the ‘Chandrayan’ project of ISRO. He was also instrumental in the advancement of mobile technology. “While India is using GSM, the US was using CDMA technology,” Mr. Haribabu said.
Mr. Haribabu said that Vajpayee was also responsible for the improvement of TV services through the use of satellite technology. The day was not far off when satellite technology would be used to provide satellite communication without the need for mobile data. He said that India was poised to emerge as the third largest economy in the world very soon.
