Siddaramaiah criticizes BJP for not understanding Gandhi's values and contributions, dismissing their remarks as meaningless.
“BJP leaders do not know who Gandhi is. How will they know who is a fake Gandhi?,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in Belagavi on Wednesday.
He was responding to a question from reporters about BJP MP Jagadish Shettar’s criticism of Gandhi Bharata as a waste of public funds by the Congress who were celebrating by inviting fake Gandhis.
“The BJP leaders do not believe in the values of equality, social and economic equality, brotherhood, truth and non-violence that Gandhi preached and practised. They do not even know what his contribution is to the freedom movement. That is why they make such meaningless remarks. Such remarks do not deserve any response,” he said.
To a query about whether the Congress will witness organisational changes after the Congress Working Committee meeting, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that change is a constant process in the party.
“Today’s situation is not the same as it was a century ago. There are several changes in the political and other sectors,” he said.
He reviewed the arrangements being made for Gandhi Bharata at various places. He also visited the Sardar High School Grounds where a Khadi Mela will be organised from Thursday till January 4. He said that Gandhi Bharata is a year-long celebration and is not restricted to two days.
It will be aimed at spreading his ideology throughout the State all round the year, he said.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed a wide range of issues including the resumption of Amaravati and Polavaram projects, and the progress achieved since the NDA allies assumed office in the State in June 2024.
