SHG Mela begins on a grand note in Visakhapatnam

Hundreds of people thronged the five-day Self-Help Group (SHG) Mela 2024, which was inaugurated at the AS Raja Grounds in MVP Colony here on Wednesday.
Around 100 stalls displaying a wide variety of products made by various SHGs from in and around Visakhapatnam district were arranged at the mela. Saris, handmade products, decorative items, bangles, home-made food products and number of items were on sale at affordable price. Being a holiday, the mela witnessed large number of crowd, mostly women and girls. Huge rush seen at stalls selling saris, dress materials, food products and ornaments.
Earlier, Rajya Sabha member Golla Babu Rao, Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari and GVMC Commissioner P. Sampath Kumar inaugurated the mela.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Babu Rao said organising such exhibitions would financially help the SHGs.
Mr. Sampath Kumar said that the mela is being organised by both the Union and the State Governments, involving the GVMC and MEPMA. He also appealed the citizens to utilise the exhibition, which will be held till December 29.
