The State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET)’s two new projects will make education into a gateway to opportunities in the digital era, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said.
He was speaking after performing the State-level inauguration of Kinavu and Trend projects at Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Girls Model Residential Higher Secondary School, Kattela, in the district on Saturday.
The Minister said the General Education department’s commitment to enabling students to enter various career fields in the rapidly developing technology sector was being realised through such projects.
The Kinavu project aimed at preparing 100 students from tribal communities for creative and technical work in visual media by providing them with advanced training in visual technology along with their studies. The training would be provided in fields such as cinematography, editing, graphics, animation, and sound recording. This would guide young minds towards higher studies in visual technology and creative interventions, the Minister said.
The Trend project was intended to develop a network of technology-enabled teachers in each district. In the first phase, a network of 300 teachers who have been specially trained to prepare digital content would be set up in all 14 districts. They would be given training in scripting at District Institute of Educational Training (DIETs). Then, more technical areas will be introduced in six batches. For this, residential camps would be held in Thiruvananthapuram. The digital transformation of the curriculum will ensure that no child was left behind in the era of digital education.
The two projects were catalysts for a more inclusive future, the Minister said.
Ward councillor S.R. Bindu presided over the function. SIET Director B. Aburaj spoke. He inaugurated the first batch training of Trend at Agricultural Cooperative Staff Training College, Manvila. Fifty teachers from various districts participated in the training. Vinod Veranakumar and Maju Simon handled camera and editing sessions.
