
TNSTC, Kumbakonam Division, bags five national awards for performance in key areas

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam Division, has bagged five National Public Bus Transport Awards given away by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) for 2023-24
The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam Division, has bagged five National Public Bus Transport Awards given away by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) for 2023-24.
The ASTRU, functioning under the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, brings together all State Road Transport Undertakings on a common platform with the aim of pooling their resources expertise and help improve their performance.
TNSTC, Kumbakonam, was adjudged the winner in Fuel Efficiency - Mofussil (with fleet size of up to 4,000) and Fuel Efficiency- Urban (fleet size above 1,000). It got the winner’s award for Tyre Performance - Urban and bagged the runner-up award under the Tyre Performance – Rural. The division was the winner in the Vehicle Utilisation Award. The awards included cash rewards.
The awards were received by R. Ponmudi, Managing Director, TNSTC, Kumbakonam Division, from Kiran Bedi, former Lieutenant Governor, Puducherry, during the International Women’s Day celebrations hosted by ASRTU in New Delhi recently.
Mr. Ponmudi told The Hindu that the division had bagged awards in all the three key areas of major expenditure for the corporation – vehicle utilisation, fuel efficiency, and tyre performance. Dedicating the awards to the commitment of the crew and technical staff, Mr. Ponmudi observed that without their involvement and cooperation, the Corporation could not have put up such good performance.
According to the TNSTC officials, the State Transport Corporations of Tamil Nadu had bagged 19 National Public Bus Transport Awards for 2023-24. The TNSTC Salem and Madurai divisions had bagged four awards each; the State Express Transport Corporation three; the MTC, Chennai, two; and the TNSTC, Villupuram Division, one.

The customary address by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan on the opening day of the Budget session of the Puducherry Assembly, besides giving an outlook on the state of economy, also provided a glimpse of the government’s thinking on various subjects, including issues faced by the Union Territory’s fishing community.
