CPI demands TDP-JSP-BJP alliance fulfill promise of land allotment to poor, organizes program for applications in Visakhapatnam.
CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna has demanded that the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance government in the State should implement its election promise of allotting 2 cents of land in urban areas and 3 cents of land in rural areas to the economically poor.
Mr. Ramakrishna handed over individual applications to the tahsildar, seeking allotment of sites, on behalf of the applicants, as part of a programme organised by the CPI, at the Visakhapatnam Rural Tahsildar’s Office, here, on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramakrishna said that the alliance government has not taken any steps to implement its promise, though 9 months have passed after it assumed power. No allocation was made for the allotment of house sites to the poor in the ₹3.20 lakh crore Budget presented by the State government in the Assembly recently. He demanded that the government allocate a minimum of ₹10,000 crore to provide housing to people experiencing poverty. He sought a decision to be made during the current budget session. The CPI was ready to organise agitations for the poor if the State government failed to implement its promise.
The CPI State secretary said that the party was submitting applications to tahsildars and Collectors for house sites on behalf of the poor, demanding the provision of house sites in all districts in the State.
Thousands of poor people have submitted their applications all over the State. He recalled that the beneficiaries of TIDCO houses had paid amounts ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹1 lakh, but they were not handed over the houses. He demanded completion of the pending works, provision of basic amenities, and handing over of the houses to the beneficiaries.
He said the Nara Chandrababu Naidu-led government, which has promised to allot two cents of land in urban areas, was allotting them far away from the city. Mr. Ramakrishna demanded that if that was the case, the beneficiaries should be given three cents of land, as promised, in rural areas.
CPI district secretary M. Pydiraju spoke. CPI district executive members A. Vimala, S.K. Rahaman, G.S.J. Atchuta Rao, party leaders V. Satyanrayana, K. Lakshmana Rao and M.A. Begum were among those who participated.
