BBMP seeks High Court approval for penal provisions against illegal hoardings, flexes, and banners in Bangalore.
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike on Thursday told the High Court of Karnataka that it had added a penal provision to take action against those who illegally put up hoardings/flexes/banners in the draft BBMP (Advertisement) Bye-laws, 2024, and sought the court’s permission to notify the bylaws.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice N.V. Anajaria and Justice M.I. Arun took the amended draft bylaws on record and reserved the judgement on the PIL petitions filed in 2017 complaining about illegal hoardings/flexes/banners.
The Bench also reserved a verdict on the PIL petition, which the court initiated suo motu in 2024 after noticing that the BBMP and the State government had failed to enforce several directions issued by the court since 2017.
Meanwhile, the court adjourned two other PIL petitions, one complaining about digital hoardings on which video advertisements are displayed and another about non-payment of advertisement tax by those who had put up advertisement hoardings under the public-private partnership projects.
