Kochi Metro's feeder electric bus services see success with over 15,500 commuters, expanding routes for increased convenience.
Over 15,500 commuters travelled in Metro Connect, the Kochi metro’s feeder electric bus services that were launched on January 16 on three routes, till Friday (January 24).
This in turn reflected in the Kochi metro getting more commuters during these days from Aluva and Kalamassery, thanks to commuters arriving in the four feeder buses that operated in the Aluva-international airport corridor (fare ₹80, service from 6.45 a.m. to 11 p.m.) and in two buses from Kalamassery to the Government Medical College and also to Cusat (fare ₹20, service from 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.). The average daily footfall on these routes where the buses began operation in the first phase hovered at over 1,900, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) informed.
The metro agency had procured a total of 15 e-buses at a cost of around ₹15 crore and also readied recharging infrastructure.
In the second phase, three of the feeder buses will operate from Kalamassery and from the Kakkanad Water Metro terminal to Infopark and the collectorate, from January 29. The services from the Water Metro terminal to Infopark will be from 8 a.m. to 7.15 p.m., every 25 minutes. Feeder buses from Kalamassery to Infopark will operate at 7 a.m., 7.20 a.m., and 7.50 a.m. A return service will ply at 7.15 p.m. Senior officials of Infopark took a ride in a trial run.
The feeder services from the Water Metro terminal to the collectorate will operate every 20 minutes, from 8 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
Next in line will be services in the High Court-MG Road circular and on the Kadavanthra-KP Vallon Road circular routes, according to KMRL.
