Incessant rain lashes several parts of the State

Incessant rainfall from Bay of Bengal Depression lashes Andhra Pradesh, disrupting normal activities and causing damage.
A widespread incessant rainfall under the influence of Depression in the Bay of Bengal along the Andhra Pradesh coast, 450 kilometres off Visakhapatnam as on 5.30 pm on Friday, lashed the State.
The rain, disrupted normal activities of people. The rains accompanied by cold winds have added fuel to the chilled weather condition in December, one of the coldest months of winter season in the State.
A public park’s retaining wall at RK Beach Road on the Visakhapatnam coast collapsed due to continuous rainfall and due to the rough sea conditions, tidal waves hit the coast since the onset of Low Pressure Area (which turned into Depression on Friday) a few days ago. Officials have issued warnings to people not to roam around the beaches until further orders.
A goods train derailed on the Kothavalasa-Kirandul railway line passing through the Eastern Ghats of Alluri Sitharama Raju district after boulders fell on the track due to incessant rains in the hilly areas. Officials, including a railway team from the Waltair Railway Division in Visakhapatnam, have taken steps to restore the track on a war-footing.
On Friday (from 8.31 am to 9 pm), the highest rainfall was recorded in Kadapa was 82.5 mm, 52 in Kurupam in Parvathipuram-Manyam district, 50.25 mm in Badangi in Vizianagaram district, and 49 mm in Bhimili in Visakhapatnam city.
In the 24-hour rainfall section (from 8.31 am on Thursday to 8.30 am on Friday), the highest rainfall in the State was recorded in Kota in Tirupati district (92.25 mm), and in Mentada in Vizianagaram district (88.5 mm) and Bhimili recorded 43 mm.
The minimum temperature was recorded at Ananthagiri in Alluri Sitarama Raju district at 17.7° Celsius.
