Speaker U.T. Khader said in Belagavi on Sunday that at least five important Bills were coming up for discussion in the Legislative Assembly during the Winter Session of the legislature starting on Monday. Two Bills to replace Ordinances would also be taken up for consideration.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting facilities in the Suvarna Soudha, the venue of the Winter Session, he said the Assembly Secretariat had received 3,004 questions, 205 call attention motions, and discussions under rules 96 and 351. Requests for three private member Bills too had been received.
To a query, he said he would urge members to discuss issues of northern Karnataka on priority, along with the various issues concerning the whole State. He said he would consider suggestions to set aside at least two days for discussions on northern Karnataka.
He said that the demand for a legislators’ home in Belagavi was pending for some time. “Around 10 acres of land is available on the Suvarna Soudha premises for this purpose. But the construction of the building will be decided after discussing with the Council Chairman, the Chief Minister, and other authorities concerned,” he said.
Before the start of the session on Monday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unveil a painting of the Anubhava Mantapa done by a group of artists. “Officers have also arranged an exhibition of rare photographs of the 1924 Congress session that was chaired by Mahatma Gandhi. Among other things, this will benefit students and teachers coming to watch the session,” he said. Mr. Khader also watched the exhibition of Gandhiji’s photographs and the ‘Balaka Mohandas to Mahatma’ exhibition organised by the KRIDL in the gallery.
