Albandezole (deworming) tablets were distributed among children and adolescents in the age group of 1 to 19 and women (except pregnant and lactating women) in the age group of 20-30 in central districts on Monday on the occasion of National Deworming Day.
As many as 5,47,195 children in rural areas and 2,38,585 children in urban areas of Tiruchi district would benefit. The tablets were given to 1,65,986 children in the age group of 1 to 5 through the anganwadis and 6,39,794 children and adolescents in the age group of six to 19 through schools and colleges, and to 1,84,491 women in the age group of 20 to 30.
Mayor M. Anbazhagan inaugurated the distribution at K.A.P. Viswanatham Higher Secondary School in Tiruchi. The deworming tablets were distributed through 295 anganwadis, 380 schools, and 31 colleges in the city.
Perambalur Collector Grace Lalrindiki Pachuau inaugurated the distribution of deworming tablets at Elamabalur Government Higher Secondary School. As many as 1,73,916 children and 45,034 women will be benefitted. The second phase of the camp is scheduled to be held on February 17 for the left-out children.
As many as 5,23,811 children aged 1 to 19 and 1,16,532 women in the age group of 20-30 were given deworming tablets in Pudukottai district. The tablets would be distributed through anganwadi workers, school, college teachers, and health workers. While half tablet (200 mg) will be given to children aged under 2, others will be given one tablet (400 mg).
District Collector M. Aruna inaugurated the distribution of deworming tablets to school children and administered the National Deworming Day pledge. She said the tablet would help prevent anaemia and nutritional deficiency, besides improving immunity, memory, and learning abilities.
In Tiruvarur, 4,42,574 children aged 1 to 19 and women in the age group of 20 to 30 were distributed albandezole tablets. Collector V. Mohanachandran inaugurated distribution of deworming tablets and administered the pledge to school students.
