Former Union Minister Chinta Mohan criticizes previous administrations for TTD employee housing issues, advocates for solutions near Tirupati.
Approximately 8,000 permanent employees of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), including archakas in Tirumala and other TTD temples, have been facing persistent housing difficulties despite assurances from previous administrations. The Congress party is making significant progress in addressing their housing challenges, says former Union Minister Chinta Mohan.
On Saturday, the Congress workers displayed wall posters advocating housing solutions for TTD personnel. Pamphlets were also distributed to employees that outlined the Congress’ commitment to peacefully resolve the issue. Dr. Chinta Mihan criticised the previous YSR Congress Party government for politicising the issue, seeking to derive political advantage in the 2024 elections.
The Congress leader demanded the cancellation of the Puttur plots and the refund of the deposits made by the employees. He said that many employees had to pay ₹3.20 lakh for the plots, resulting in financial strain and that they were of the opinion that value of the allocated plots was substantially lower than their investments. “There is dissatisfaction among TTD employees and their families, regarding the location of house sites designated in a forest area near Puttur, situated far from their workplaces,” the Congres leader said. Dr. Chinta Mohan said that during the Congress regime in united Andhra Pradesh, land was designated for housing plots for TTD staff in proximity to Tirupati.
He opined that with 400 acres of the TTD land available from Alipiri to Peruru, there was a significant opportunity to develop a solution that meets the housing needs of employees. He criticised the lack of resolve to find a solution despite the National Democratic Alliance government being in power for several months.
Congress would persist in conducting peaceful protests advocating for housing plot of five cents to each employee at Alipiri, the former Union Minister assured.
