DC stresses upon joint action to curb drug abuse

Presiding over a meeting at his office on Friday, on curbing the drug menace in the district, the Deputy Commissioner asked all departments to work jointly to curb increasing drug menace in the district.
Expressing concern over students falling prey to drug abuse, the Deputy Commissioner asked educational institutes to hold awareness programmes to prevent students from becoming victims. If addicts are found, they should be counselled and efforts should be made to find out the source of drugs.
Mr. Muhilan said that drug abuse cases in educational institutes should not be masked just because such cases damaged the reputation of institutes. Suspected students should be tested.
The DC asked the Forest Department officials to check if ganja was being cultivated in forest areas. He asked departments to submit monthly reports on steps taken to curb the drug menace.
Mr. Muhilan asked the Regional Transport Officers to paste hand bills on buses to create awareness against drug abuse. The helpline number 1933 should be mentioned on the bills, he said.
The Deputy Commissioner said that peddling of synthetic drugs have been found in the district. The source of this should also be traced.
