Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister hand over appointment orders to newly recruited staff in Public Works Department.
Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday handed over appointment orders to the newly recruited staff in the Public Works Department.
The appointment orders were given to recently recruited 99 Junior Engineers and 69 Overseers at a function held at Kamaraj Manimandapam near Sivaji Statue.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rangasamy said there were around 10,000 vacant posts in various departments when his government assumed office in 2021. Vacancies have been filled in several departments including Police in the last few months. Steps are now being taken to fill around 800 posts in the category of Assistants, LDC and UDC and 300 nursing posts, he added.
Mr Kailashnathan in his address urged the newly recruited employees to work with dedication and social responsibility. The PWD has a major role to play in the infrastructure development of Puducherry. The new officers should try to specialise in engineering fields such as harbour engineering. Harbour engineering has tremendous scope in Puducherry because of its vast coastline, he said.
The newly recruited officers, he said have become part of Puducherry’s development agenda and Prime Minister’s vision to make India a developed nation by 2047, the Lt Governor said.
Speaker R Selvam, Minister for Public Works K. Lakshminarayanan, Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan and senior officers attended the event.
