A ₹69-crore project report for developing Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple in Villianur under PRASHAD scheme.
A ₹69-crore project report has been prepared on developing the Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple, Thirukanji in Villianur as a major destination under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) scheme of the Government of India, Leader of the Opposition and DMK convenor R. Siva has said.
In a statement, Mr. Siva said the temple, located on the banks of the Sankarabarani River, attracted several lakh devotees from all over India and abroad throughout the year. It was also a popular choice for performing ancestral rites.
Following persistent pleas, the Union government included the temple in the PRASHAD scheme.
Consequently, the government despatched a Mumbai-based consultancy to evaluate the temple’s potential for pilgrimage and its infrastructural requirements for preparing a project report.
Mr. Siva said the agency had prepared a project report on the facilities required such as a community hall, shopping complex, shaded passage leading to the ghat for devotees, a separate mandapam for ancestral rites and parking areas.
The Leader of the Opposition met the representatives of the consultancy at the temple and discussed the expansion needs. He later handed over the project report to a tourism official for sending it to the Centre through the government in the presence of temple administrators.
