Eminent Yakshagana comedy artist Arun Kumar Jarkala has been chosen for the annual Sri Kundeshwara Samman instituted by the Hirgana Kshetra of Karkala.

The award would be presented during the Kundeshwara Jathre on January 23, said cultural programme convener Jitendra Kundeshwara in a statement here. The son of Doreswamy and Leelavathi, whose mother tongue was Telugu, the artist lived in Jarkala earlier. Now, he lives in Pernankila.
Mr. Jarkala learnt the art at the Dharmasthala Training workshop and joined the Kateel Mela. At present, he has been in great demand in both the Thenku and Badagu Thittu, the statement said. Gaining prominence in Saligrama Mela, Mr. Jarkala is presently the main comedy artist in Benkinatheshwara Mela.
Tulu Bayalata Yakshagana, Shreedevi Agni Kallurti will be staged by Benkinatheshwara Mela at Hirgana from 7.30 p.m. on January 23. Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, Karkala MLA V. Sunil Kumar, former BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel and others will attend the programme.
The two-day annual Jathre of Kundeshwara Temple will begin on January 21, according to temple Dharmadarshi Krishnarajendra Bhat.
