Chief Minister Rekha Gupta holds meetings with departments, plans to provide free LPG cylinders to poor families before Holi.
A day after taking oath, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other ministers held a series of meetings in the Delhi Secretariat with different departments including the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), and Women and Child Development (WCD) Department.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Minister of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, after holding a meeting with the department told The Hindu that the government is trying to give the first free LPG cylinder to all poor families by Holi.
Ahead of the election, the BJP had promised in its manifesto to provide LPG cylinders for ₹500 each to women from poor families, and one free cylinder each during Holi and Deepawali.
“I held a meeting with the officials and told them to make a plan. The idea is to give the LPG cylinder to poor people and the department is working on the criteria. Even though time is very short, we are trying our best to make sure that people get the first free LPG cylinder before Holi,” Mr. Sirsa said.
An official said that apart from the two free cylinders, 10 cylinders will be given to each family for ₹500 each during a year, as per current plans, and the total budget outlay for the scheme is also being worked out.
The scheme needs to be passed by the cabinet before its implementation.
When asked about plans for compacting pollution, Mr. Sirsa who also holds the environment portfolio said that he held a meeting with officials from the department and asked them to make plans to compact both air and water pollution. “I have directed them to visit the field and conduct reviews. I have also asked them to visit the landfills so that all the plans can be put up before the CM. I will review them again on Monday,” he said.
