M.K. Stalin questions PM Modi on Tamil Nadu representation in Parliament, calls for unity among parties in the state.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi would give a written assurance that representation of Tamil Nadu in Parliament would not be reduced because of the proposed delimitation.
Delivering an address organised by the ruling DMK in Chennai ahead of his 72nd birthday, Mr. Stalin said setting aside political differences, all parties in Tamil Nadu should come together to defend rights of the State for the benefit of future generations.
The Chief Minister said: “There might be differences of opinion within the INDIA bloc. But some are anticipating a fissure in our ideological alliance and their expectation would never fructify. The continuous victory of the DMK-led alliance since the 2019 Lok Sabha election was because of our alliance’s camaraderie.”
He also charged the Union BJP government at the Centre with imposing the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test and not releasing funds for disaster relief. “Why is Mr. Modi silent on Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks that the Centre would release funds for education to Tamil Nadu only if the State accepts the National Education Policy (NEP), which includes the three-language formula. You cannot impose Hindi by threatening us. We will continue to fight,” he added.
Leaders of the INDIA bloc participated in the meeting.
