Madras High Court Judge releases interactive Tamil module promoting constitutional rights education for children, emphasizing grassroots reach.
Madras High Court Judge Justice P.B. Balaji on Friday released ‘Journey of Children’, the Tamil Module (Vaandugal Payanam) and the Digital Module.
The main objective of the module was to promote constitutional rights education among children and teach the Constitution to the children in an interactive manner.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Balaji said that it was a fantastic initiative. Through this, the children could easily understand the Constitution as it was made simple and in an interactive manner with stories, fun facts and anecdotes.
The Constitution was like a train with several compartments. In the journey of life, the Constitution ensures that it runs smoothly and that no one was left out. For the Hindus it was the Bhagavad Gita, for the Muslims it was the Quran and for the Christians it was the Bible. For Indians it was the Constitution, he said, adding that it should reach the grassroots level.
Former Professor of Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul, G. Palanithurai said that it was important to teach the Constitution at the school level. It should also be discussed at gram sabhas, he said.
Executive Director of People’s Watch Henri Tiphagne and Joint Director of SOCO Trust Selva Gomathi spoke at the event.
The module was developed by Vaan Muhil Trust of Tirunelveli. Assistant State Coordinator of the trust G. Priya welcomed the gathering. Consultant of the programme G. Ganesan spoke about the initiative. Executive Director of the trust M.A. Britto was present and Programme Officer of the Trust S. Arul proposed a vote of thanks. The digital module was screened at the event.
