Minister Ram Mohan Naidu approves NOC for Mamnoor Airport expansion near Hyderabad, boosting regional development in Telangana.
Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu reviewed and approved a no objection certificate (NOC) for airport development in the vicinity of Hyderabad International Airport paving the way for expansion of Mamnoor Airport in Warangal, Telangana.
The Minister’s green light follows the one-time waiver of the exclusivity clause and a NOC from GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL). Clause 5.2 in the Concession Agreement signed between the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation and Hyderabad International Airport prohibits development of new or existing airport within an aerial distance of 150 km before the 25th anniversary of the airport opening date. The agreement was signed in December 2004
The NOC, however, applies solely to Mamnoor Airport and will not affect future projects within the exclusivity zone, according to a statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
“Warangal has immense potential to become a major regional hub. We are committed to ensuring this project moves swiftly, bringing new opportunities for trade, tourism, and local employment,” Minister Naidu was quoted in the statement.
Telangana Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy in a letter dated 5th November 2024, reiterated the state’s support for the airport’s development under the UDAN scheme, in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The State has already initiated land acquisition, allocating ₹205 crores for 280.30 acres, so that the airport is capable of handling Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 category aircraft.
At the time of assuming office as the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr. Naidu assured he would make efforts to ensure more airports for the Telugu people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. At that time, he spoke about the need for more airports in Telangana and readying the new Bhogapuram airport for north Andhra by December 2025, alongside improving air connectivity to Amravati and international connectivity for airports in Tirupati and Vijayawada.
