Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Saxena vows to improve cleanliness in MCD areas, seeks cooperation for a cleaner, greener Delhi.
Delhi Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena on Friday said he will ensure that areas under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) become as clean and beautiful as areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
Speaking to sanitation officials of the MCD at a ‘Samvaad with Swachhta Sainiks’ event, Mr. Saxena said that that there is no uniformity in cleanliness in the city. He added that the people of Delhi have chosen a new leadership, and this change will positively impact both the city and its people.
“Safai Karamcharis have made strong efforts to clean Delhi, however it is not enough. We still have to work harder and make Delhi clean. This change [in the city’s leadership] is a challenge for the Safai Karamcharis and it will reflected when Delhi becomes completely clean and green.,” the L-G said.
He added that the MCD is doing good work in many areas, but many areas need special attention. “Special drives should be started from today itself in those areas which did not receive enough attention earlier, so that Delhi can be made garbage-free,” Mr. Saxena said. He sought the cooperation of all karamcharis to make Delhi the most beautiful capital of the world.
“Samvaad” is an initiative that involves the L-G having an open house interaction with various citizen groups of the Capital. This edition was with MCD officials in which he acknowledged their vital role in maintaining the city’s cleanliness and sanitation. He commended their dedication, particularly during challenging times like the Covid-19 pandemic, Yamuna river floods, and the successful organisation of the G-20 summit. “You are the backbone of Delhi, and without you, it’s difficult to imagine a clean Delhi,” Mr. Saxena said.
