The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has urged the district administration to take action to increase bus services for college students who commute daily
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has urged the district administration to take action to increase bus services for college students who commute daily.
In a petition submitted to the district authorities, SFI highlighted the transportation difficulties faced by over 10,000 students studying in three major educational institutions in the Khajamalai area — Thanthai Periyar Government College, Government Law College, and Bharathidasan University. Among them, more than 3,000 students travelled from neighbouring districts by bus and train.
SFI district secretary G. Mohan said because of inadequate bus services, students were forced to travel precariously, often clinging onto footboards, risking their safety. He urged the administration to instruct transport authorities to deploy additional buses to ensure safe and accessible travel for students.
Sources from the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) said they would look into the issue and take steps to address the concern.

Flagging the issue that tenders for the supply of train sets/rolling stocks floated by the State government for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) had failed thrice, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who was in the city on Saturday, said that Railways was now proposing to supply the train sets for BSRP.
