Strict action will be taken against the accused in the acid attack case, says Annamayya district SP Vidyasagar. Crimes against women will not be tolerated, the SP asserts, adding that a thorough, scientific investigation will be conducted into the incident.
The Annamayya district police on Saturday arrested 22-year-old Sankarapu Ganesh on the charges of attacking a woman with acid and injuring her with a knife at Pyarampalle village of Gurramkonda mandal on Friday.
Enraged over the woman’s engagement to another man, Ganesh had allegedly forcibly entered her house when her parent were away, and attacked her with acid and later with a knife, causing her severe injuries, Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu told the media.
The victim was initially rushed to the government hospital in Madanapalle, and later shifted to a corporate hospital in Bengaluru for advanced treatment, he said. Sources in the Police Department said that her condition was stable.
Soon after the incident, special teams had been constituted and the accused caught within 24 hours of committing the crime, Mr. Vidyasagar said.
“A thorough, scientific investigation will be conducted into the incident. Strict legal action will be taken against the accused,” the Superintendent of Police asserted, and reiterated the department’s commitment to protecting the safety of women.
“Crimes against women will not be tolerated,” he said, adding that the district police had launched a WhatsApp channel to create public awareness on the issue.
Advising parents to monitor their children’s activities, he cautioned them about the legal consequences of minors engaged in unlawful activities.
