Coimbatore District Collector inaugurates Uyir Road Safety Hackathon 2025, showcasing innovative solutions for city's road safety challenges.
Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati inaugurated the two-day Uyir Road Safety Hackathon 2025 grand finale at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology on February 8, 2025 (Saturday).
Organised by the Coimbatore district administration, Coimbatore City Police, and Uyir—a non-governmental organisation focused on road safety—the hackathon features two categories: students and professionals.
According to the organisers, the event received over 3,000 initial abstract submissions for problem statements developed by the Coimbatore City Police. Participants developed ideas and prototypes to improve road safety, which could contribute to the Coimbatore Road Safety Model City Project, an initiative implemented by Uyir in collaboration with the Government of Tamil Nadu.
From the initial submissions, 145 teams from 12 States were shortlisted for the final presentations. Over two days, they will showcase their innovations to a jury panel comprising experts from various fields, including road safety. The panel will evaluate the projects based on innovation, cost-effectiveness, and feasibility for rapid implementation.
Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar, and S. Malarvizhi, Chairperson and Managing Trustee of Sri Krishna Institutions, attended the inauguration. Participants presented their ideas and explained their proposed solutions, highlighting practical ways to address road safety challenges in the city.
The winning projects will undergo practical testing in collaboration with government agencies and experts. Successful solutions will be integrated into Coimbatore’s road safety framework, contributing to ongoing efforts to reduce accidents and improve traffic management.
