No move to make public collection of money to take care of the family, says Sabu M. Jacob
Twenty20 Kizhakkambalam, the political formation backed by Kitex Group of Companies, has said it will adopt and take care of the entire needs of former Twenty20 area secretary C.K. Deepu, 38, who died on Friday after allegedly being assaulted by a group of CPI(M) workers.
While four persons have been charged with murder, Twenty20 chief coordinator Sabu M. Jacob told reporters at Deepu’s home that the outfit, its supporters, and Kizhakkambalam panchayat would come out in support of the family, which had suffered a big emotional setback owing to the death of the family’s breadwinner.
Mr. Jacob took a dig at political parties that covered themselves in glory using the sacrifices of party supporters and workers who were victims of political violence and said that Twenty20 did not want to build memorials, go in for making public collection of money to take care of the family of Deepu, who was a victim of political violence. He said the whole of Kizhakkambalam and Twenty20 formation were indebted to Deepu for his sacrifice.
Deepu’s father Kavungaparambu Chayattunjalil Kunjaru was seen in tears when Mr. Jacob spoke to the media announcing the decision of Twenty20 to take over responsibilities of medical treatment and daily requirements of the family. Deepu’s father is reportedly a heart patient, and the entire family depended on Deepu, who was a daily wage earner.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Mr. Jacob and more than a dozen others have been booked by the police for violating the COVID-19 protocol during the funeral of Deepu, who was cremated at Athani near Kakkanad on Friday after hundreds paid homage to him at the Food Security Supermarket complex of Twenty20 on Aluva-Kizhakkambalam road.
Twenty20 supporters from Kizhakkambalam, neighbouring areas, and other parts of the district were among those who came to pay their respects to Deepu, who was seen as an amiable person with no known enmity with political rivals. The initial post-mortem report indicated that he died of injuries to head, internal bleeding, and organ failure.
