Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav join DMK protest against UGC draft regulations in New Delhi, amplifying student voices.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav, among other seniors of the INDIA bloc, on Thursday participated in a protest organised by the DMK in New Delhi against the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) draft regulations.
Speaking at the protest at Jantar Mantar, Mr. Gandhi alleged that the draft regulations were an attempt at spreading the agenda of the RSS.
He called upon the Tamil youth to realise that this was not just an educational move or merely the “RSS placing Vice-Chancellors (V-Cs) in State-run universities, but an attempt to attack everything that you stand for...”
Thanking Mr. Gandhi, Mr. Yadav, and other leaders for their participation the protest, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin posted on social media that they [the leaders] deserved gratitude for amplifying the voice of students in the nation’s capital.
“The RSS-BJP’s agenda is clear — to erase diverse histories, traditions, and languages to impose a single identity,” he said.
Mr. Gandhi had rightly pointed out that this was not merely an educational move, but an assault on Tamil Nadu’s rich heritage and the essence of federalism, Mr. Stalin said.
The Chief Minister further pointed out that the DMK, right from protesting against NEET and the Citizenship Amendment Act to the three farm laws, had led every fight to uphold the Constitution. “Today, our voice in New Delhi will resonate across India.”
