
Second phase of training programme for women in technical departments of cinema begins

Increase women's participation in film industry for a safer workplace, with government project providing technical training and employment opportunities.
The participation of women in the film industry should be increased to make it a safer place to work, Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan has said.
She was speaking after inaugurating the second phase of the government project to provide training for women in the technical departments of cinema here on Wednesday. She said that he government is making efforts to increase the participation of women in areas where they are under-represented.
Kerala State Chalachitra Academy chairperson Prem Kumar presided over the inauguration of the technical training programme to be held from Wednesday to Sunday (April 2 to 6) at Guru Gopinath Natanagramam in Thiruvananthapuram. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission and the Kerala State Film Development Corporation. Women interested in working in the film industry were selected in two phases based on specific criteria.
A committee comprising representatives from the Chalachitra Academy, the Knowledge Economy Mission and the Labour Commissionerate selected those with the required qualifications from among the applicants for the first phase of the orientation camp. As many as 30 women participated in the camp held in September.
Based on their performance in this camp, 13 participants selected from seven categories will be provided practical training in their respective fields. A fixed amount of stipend will be provided through the Chalachitra Academy during the training period. After training, employment opportunities will be opened in professional film production companies.
