The Tiruchi City Police launched a weekend special operation in their jurisdiction on Saturday in an effort to prevent crime. The special operation was launched on the advice of the Director-General of Police and Head of the Police Force to carry them throughout the State.
As part of the operation which will be on till April 14 , police teams checked vehicles and checked lodges falling under the Tiruchi City Police limits on Saturday night.
Vehicles were checked at important junctions and at nine check posts by the police. Patrolling was intensified as part of the operation during which dummy runs were conducted by sending police personnel in plainclothes with arms in two-wheelers.
Instructions were given to the police teams to check for vehicles operating with fake registration numbers by examining the documents and finding out the suspects through the Face Recognition Software. The exercise was to find out if the teams were able to find out those police personnel deployed for dummy runs in two-wheelers.
Commissioner of Police N. Kamini inspected the vehicle check operations on Saturday night and advised the teams to carry out intensive search. The teams were provided with baton lights and reflective jackets. A police press release on Sunday said 16 cases of drinking and driving and 300 other cases under the Motor Vehicles Act were booked during the vehicle checks.
