Increased security measures in Delhi after terror attack, with police deployed at key locations and tourist attractions.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in large numbers across the national capital on Wednesday, a day after the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
“Help desks have been set up at several metro stations and employees instructed to keep an eye on suspicious activities,” said a senior officer, adding that additional deployment has been made at metro stations, bus terminals, railway stations, malls, and several crowded marketplaces such as Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and Rajouri Garden.
Surveillance has also been increased at tourist attractions, including Red Fort, India Gate, Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, Lotus Temple, Akshardham Temple, Lodhi Garden, Jama Masjid, National Museum, Jantar Mantar, Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, Rajghat, and Safdarjung Tomb.
Additional forces have also been deployed at the High Commission of Pakistan as well as along Delhi’s borders with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Traffic movement has also been regulated in sensitive zones in the city. The additional security measures coincide with the ongoing visit of U.S. Vice-President J.D. Vance.
“We have placed extra barricades and metal detectors at checkpoints. Foot patrolling teams and police personnel in plain clothes have also been pressed into service,” said another officer.
