The gallery established in the department has a collection of 160 photographs of writers from Kalyana Karnataka and the alumni have made major contributions for establishing the photo archive.
An unused passage in the building, opposite to the gallery, has also been converted into a photo gallery of award recipients from the region, who have been conferred with varius awards.
The department has planned to digitise 3,000 books of historical importance to Kalyana Karnataka region written by the authors from the region.
Head of the Kannada Department H.T. Pote said that the library, if digitised, will become an epicentre of notable information of not just the region’s history but also significant political social, and cultural events of Kalyana Karnataka and this library would become a repository of rare books, he added.
Dr. Pote, who has been working on this project for the last few years without any institutional help, said that with all the exclusive literature collection, the gallery becomes a favorite reference point for history buffs and people documenting events of Kalyana Karnataka region.
Dr. Pote who was inspired by a photo gallery of writers in England during a recent visit, adopted the concept to set up such a gallery to preserve the literary treasure of Kalyana Karnataka and to allow people to access them in one click. He says that the work is in progress to include more memorabilia.
